Therapists and psychologists have spoken with a 9-year-old boy found naked and severely underweight in a North Miami Beach street, as well as his five siblings.

Neighbors found the 9-year-old, who weighed just 35 pounds, wandering alone, naked, in a roadway in the 1400 block of Northeast 152nd Street, near his home.

The boy’s parents, Edward Bernard Bailey and Marsee Strong, were arrested on charges of abuse and neglect.

Bailey and Strong, both of whom are still in custody, were taken to juvenile court Wednesday to hear the facts of the case.

The couple has six children, including the 9-year-old boy. In separate interviews with therapists and psychologists, each of the children said their parents did not abuse them.

Police accused Bailey and Strong of abusing the boy in their home, but child psychologist Dr. Michael DiTomasso disputed that theory.

“I saw the pictures, and then I saw the child. Your first impression is, ‘Oh my god, who did this to him?’” said DiTomasso. “But I think that there’s a medical condition here that needs attention.”

“I’m just trying to figure out how this child got to this condition and no one hospitalized him and no one did something to prevent further harm to him,” said Miami-Dade Circuit Court Judge Cindy Lederman.

In juvenile court, testimony was given about one of the boy’s siblings who is known to have hit the other children. Investigators are looking into the theory that maybe the 9-year-old could have received injuries that way.

The 9-year-old remains hospitalized.

Bailey’s sister, the children’s aunt, has said she is willing to take custody of the children, but officials must complete a home study first.
